School's Out for Summer!

Yesterday was officially my LAST day of school.  The kids were gone on Friday, but I was there packing, cleaning, and preparing for another summer break.  Last night, Mr. Dump and I went to dinner where he sweetly remarked, "I love Summer Sarah."  "Fall, Winter and Spring Sarahs" were a little offended, but they totally understood what he meant.  "Summer Sarah" gets to step away from lesson plans, grading papers, after school commitments, (the list could go on and on) and live stress-free for two months.  I woke up this morning humming the ever popular song "School's Out" by Alice Cooper.  I was tempted to load on the eyeliner and play my air guitar around the house, but decided that I had projects to share with the world!  Which brings us to our first post of the summer...

We found this beauty not too long ago and LOVED the concept of this piece.  She needed quite a bit of Summer Lovin' so let's begin...

Mr. Dump wanted to get in on the action so he removed the nails that were haphazardly lining the top while I got ready with the sander.

We taped off the natural wooden seat to help it look older and leave some of the original beauty in tact.  After painting it a blue/green color I went to town with the sander.  I love how the original black and white of the doors peeks through the distressing.

And now for her big debut...

I think that she would be lovely in an outdoor garden or in a mud room.  The concept of this piece is so simple and unique.  Mr. Dump has me on a door hunting mission because he wants to tackle this project from start to finish.  Be on the lookout for that project to happen soon!  For now, the garage is full, and it is time for me to paint!

Happy Junkin'!

Sarah

  1. I, too, LOVE AND ADORE Summer Sarah! Fall, Winter and Spring Sarahs are fabulous in their own way, but a little stressed for my taste. Besides, those other Sarahs can't decide on a Thursday morning to come to DC on Friday for the weekend! Can't wait to see you and FIND MORE TREASURES! Excellent piece and fantastic post!!!!
