Happy New Year!

Well... we've officially "Dumped" 2011 and "Discovered" 2012 (I couldn't resist)!  2011 brought many new possibilities and adventures for The Dumps.  Just one short year ago I started my love of yard sale, estate sale, side of the road, and thrift store shopping.  Most of you know that in my normal life I am a fourth grade teacher.  I have a passion for kids, and I love what I do.  However, I have found a new love of thrifting, blogging, and running my own business on the side.  We started our business by selling our painted pieces on Craigslist while we waited for a booth to open at The Sleep Poet.  Finally in January, we got the call (after Mr. Dump annoyed them to the point of "finding" a spot for us - I wonder if they miss his daily phone calls...).  Before we moved into our booth on February 1st, it looked like this:

Note: That's not our furniture - it was just waiting to welcome us!

After some painting, creating and heavy lifting, it started to look like this:

Just one year later, this is what our booth looks like:  (Thank goodness we discovered the beauty of color!)

I completed MANY new projects during my winter break that I can't wait to share with you (some of them can be seen in these pictures!).  In order to continue to find that balance that we all search for, I have decided to update the blog every Sunday evening until this summer (when I'm free again and can paint my heart out!).  Keep checking back to see lots of transformations while The Dumps continue to learn, grow and create in 2012!

Happy Junkin'!

Sarah

  1. Hi Sarah! I've been a Follower of yours for months, and always looked forward to your finds and projects. Just a few days ago I went thru the list on my dashboard of 160 blogs that I had signed up to Follow, and cleared out the ones I don't really "Follow" (read much). I came across yours again that shows you haven't posted much in the last couple of months (like three posts in Dec) but I was just HOPING you would post some more, so you were on my KEEP list. I'm glad you are gonna be posting more because I WANNA follow your adventures!

Good luck for 2012 and can hardly wait to read all about your newest projects you did!

  2. Amen! Happy colorful 2012!!! The booth looks GORGEOUS! Might I suggest one change - I really don't like that my sister and bro-in-law are now "The Dumps." I vastly prefer Mrs. Stressed and Mr. Distressed. It really suits the two of you better..... :)

I am SO EXCITED that you have found this passion and can't wait to see more! I'm honored to be riding along on this adventure - I hope that you don't mind that I call you 67 times a day while you're painting!

  3. I enjoyed seeing how your booth changed so much in a year. I just got my first booth in November and it has already evolved so much.

I am looking for a china hutch/cabinet and my sister saw a black one in your booth just recently but now it's gone:( But I am going to keep checking back with you! Do you ever re-do kitchen tables?
Keep up the good work!! Thanks alot!

  8. I forgot one more thing...We recently bought a home and I always say it looks straight out of '91 too!! Brass everywhere, teal countertops...ugh! So the pictures of your Mom's house inspired me! I love the gray walls with the chair moulding...I think I may steal that idea:) Thanks again!

  9. WhyCuzICan - I'm doing my best to get Sarah to post more! I'm trying to convince her to quit teaching and tackle this full time (she enjoys teaching, but life is too short to not do what you absolutely love)!

Shannon - The black hutch sold on December 29!!! And yes...we have done a kitchen table before!!

Thank you all for your comments!

Mr. Distressed - this is for you Lola
